Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 La Mujer Cañón single-vineyard Garnacha comes from a one-hectare plot that is worked organically and was planted in 1934 on granite soils at 950 meters altitude. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and full clusters in an oak vat with a non-extractive (more like an infusion) vinification. It matured in used French oak barrels for 12 months. This has a very pale, translucent color that talks about a delicate and ethereal wine even in a warm and low-yielding year. The color looks almost like a Poulsard from the Jura. It has an aromatic and intoxicating nose, with some bittersweet sensations reminiscent of hops, intermixed with notes of dried rose petals, watermelon and pomegranate, with a spicy twist and a touch of talcum powder. This has lightness and finesse, but it also has power; the vineyard yielded 1,400 kilos per hectare, and the wine has inner strength. It has moderate alcohol and very fine tannins with a, herbal and salty twist on the finish. 1,098 bottles, 90 magnums and five double magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2019. There will be a La Mujer Cañón Cariñena that will be sold from the 2015 vintage.
