La bodega Oremus se encuentra en el corazón de la región de Tokaj-Hegyalja, una cadena montañosa que ocupa la parte noreste de Hungría. Esta región es reconocida por sus excepcionales condiciones vinícolas, lo que le valió el título de patrimonio mundial por el Comité del Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO en 2002. En el centro geográfico de esta región se ubican la localidad de Tolcsva y Bodegas Oremus.
Historia
La historia de la bodega Oremus está profundamente arraigada en la tradición vinícola de la región. En 1993, poco después de la caída del comunismo, la familia Álvarez Vega Sicilia fundó Tokaj-Oremus Viñedos y Bodegas. Las actividades de la propiedad se centran en Tolcsva, donde, en 1999, se construyó una moderna bodega de vinificación, conectada al laberinto de bodegas subterráneas que datan del siglo XIII. La familia Álvarez, al embarcarse en este proyecto, mostró un profundo respeto por la tradición vinícola de la región, dedicando tiempo y esfuerzo al estudio minucioso del vino y su proceso de elaboración. Para la gestión del proyecto, se reclutó un equipo profesional que conocía muy bien el terreno y se buscó a un enólogo experimentado de la zona para liderar el equipo.
Viñedos
La región de Tokaj es famosa por su terroir único. La ciudad de Tokaj, que da nombre a los vinos producidos en la región, se encuentra a orillas del río Bodrog, al pie de los montes Zemplén, cerca de las fronteras con la actual República Independiente de Ucrania. La región de Tokaj abarca un total de 7.000 hectáreas de viñedo y consta de 27 municipios. Su ubicación geográfica y el clima de la región, junto con el tipo de suelo, crean las condiciones ideales para la producción de vinos de alta calidad.
Filosofía
La filosofía detrás de los vinos Oremus es transmitir la delicadeza de un vino digno de reyes. Esta idea se refleja en la descripción que hizo Luis XIV al probarlo: "Tokaj, vino de reyes y rey de los vinos". La historia de los vinos de Oremus se remonta a 1630, cuando Maté Szepsi Lacko, un predicador calvinista, elaboró el primer "vino de lágrima de Tokaj" (Tokaj Aszú) y se lo ofreció a la princesa Susana Lorántffy. Este vino se produjo a partir de uvas cultivadas en el viñedo de Oremus. Desde entonces, el viñedo de Oremus ha sido reconocido por su excelencia, siendo clasificado como primae classis en 1772, en la primera clasificación de viñedos del mundo.
