Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), which is continuing its élevage in foudre, unwinds in the glass with notes of citrus oil, pear, hazelnuts, fresh mint and subtle reduction. Full-bodied, layered and chalky, with a rich core of fruit that's still youthfully tightly wound, it concludes with a long, resonant finish. It's one of the high points of the range this year.

Features

Description

On the heights of Aloxe-Corton, in the north of the Côte de Beaune, Louis Jadot devotedly cultivates a mythical plot: 1.88 hectares in the "Les Pougets" climate, on the legendary "Rognon de Corton". There, on limestone marl soils with sloping silt and full southern exposure, this Chardonnay is born not to please, but to reveal. The winery decided to preserve this site not for its comfort, but for its character: a difficult terroir, with rapid drainage and direct exposure, where the vines must struggle to survive and where only patience and observation allow the grapes to be harvested at the right moment. An anecdote from the technical team recalls how one harvest was intentionally delayed by a few hours so that the grapes would receive the last warmth of the day: "that light was the vineyard's farewell", they said. This absolute respect for the origin defines the soul of Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru.

Winemaking

After manual harvesting in small crates, the grapes are gently pressed. The must of Louis Jadot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru is fermented in oak barrels, one third new. It then spends 15 months on fine lees, developing texture, without losing tension. Finally, it is bottled without aggressive filtration, maintaining purity and energy.

Taste

The first contact with Louis Jadot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru is mineral, as if one smells the stone itself. Then comes a restrained white fruit - pear, reinette apple - accompanied by citrus zest and a delicate hint of brioche. On the palate, the entry is precise and straightforward, with a vibrant acidity that supports the creamy breadth of the centre. Hints of fresh almond, subtle butter and white flowers add complexity. The finish is long, saline, with an unmistakable chalky echo. It is a white for cellaring, perfect with prawns, foie gras, Saint-Jacques ceviche or cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin. A pure, uncompromising Louis Jadot Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru that conveys the soul of the rock and the grandeur of the Côte de Beaune.
