Buy Wine from Bodegas Honorio Rubio
The appearance of this winery in La Rioja dates back to 1930, thanks to the efforts of Juan Rubio Hernando. However, this winery as it is known today is the result of the vision of Honorio Rubio, who markets the previously bottled wines.
This family business has become a benchmark in the production of traditional Rioja wines, such as claret. In addition, throughout its winemaking history, the Rubio family has also focused on carrying out winemaking projects with the aim of achieving excellent quality products.
The history of the winery
Although the Rubio family has been making wine in the traditional way for almost a century, it was Delfín Rubio who was in charge of selling it, first to various mediators and then to the people who were in charge of bottling it, at the beginning of the sixties. At the end of the 1980s, this family business took a step forward and began bottling its own creations.
Today, the winery has three different sections, including one for subway aging, in order to provide the appropriate conditions for the development of the properties of its wines.
Location
The winery is located in Cordovín, in the autonomous community of La Rioja, towards the upper area of the Najerilla River. It has approximately 80 hectares of vineyards, which are divided into 15 hectares of its own vineyards and more than 50 hectares belonging to vine growers who have been supplying the family for decades.
The lands where the vines used in the production of Honorio Rubio wines are grown are located at an altitude of over 600 meters above sea level. There, the red clayey and slightly alkaline soils, characteristic of the Rioja area, predominate. Cultivation in the area focuses on three varieties of Vitis vinifera: Tempranillo, Garnacha and Viura.
As for its commercial location, the winery has remained in the same location for almost one hundred years on the road to Badarán and its main peculiarity is that both the old stone cellars and the most up-to-date technology coexist in order to guarantee the production of wines of excellent quality.
Meet the director of Honorio Rubio wineries
Honorio Rubio belongs to a family dedicated to viticulture for decades. From a very young age he helped his father and grandfather in winemaking, until at the age of 15 he participated in his first solo harvest after his father fell ill. Since then, both work and learning have not stopped, earning him a place in the wine industry and leading to various international recognitions, such as scores on the Parker scale.
Honorio is recognized for experimenting with various techniques in order to obtain results superior to those of other brands. Among them, lees in cement, skin and wood in addition to the use of spin barrels to facilitate the turning process and accentuate the blends.
Today, Honorio Rubio works in the company of his sisters and two renowned winemakers: Alberto Pedrajo and Javier Madrazo, who have been of great help in maintaining the quality of the traditional products and adding some exclusive varieties to the market.
A natural flavor with a personal touch
The main characteristic of Bodegas Honorio Rubio wines is the absence of selected yeasts. In addition, the Cordovan businessman is not in favor of vat feet either. Instead, the fermentation process is expected to start spontaneously once the must has been extracted. Likewise, the use of sulfites is postponed until before fining, resulting in a flavor that highlights the organoleptic properties of each grape variety.
In summary, both for the procedures used in the elaboration of the wines and for the climatic conditions of the area, we can say that in Bodegas Honorio Rubio it is possible to find the authentic flavor of Cordovín in its maximum expression.
What are you waiting for to try it? Come on and fall in love!
