The Mestres winery is located in the heart of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, an emblematic town in the Penedés region of Spain. This winery has a history deeply rooted in viticulture, with documents attesting to the ownership of vineyards by the Mestres family dating back to 1312. Over more than thirty generations, the family has maintained a winemaking tradition that has combined patience and time as its main tools.
Today, the winery is run by Jaume Vial, who has been at the helm of commercial management since 2017. Vial has continued the family tradition of producing long-aged cavas that respect the traditional method and the philosophy of minimal intervention, always maintaining balance and authenticity in each bottle.
Vineyards
The Mestres vineyards extend over an area of 20 hectares of its own vineyards, complemented by a further 18 hectares leased on a long-term basis, located mainly in Sant Sadurní, Sant Llorenç d'Hortons and Sant Esteve Sesrovires. The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 225 and 250 metres above sea level, although some plots are located in higher areas, such as Pla de Manlleu and Pontons, at 700 metres above sea level, where varieties such as Parellada and Pinot Noir are grown.
The terroir of Mestres is unique, with soils that vary between clay and limestone, which allows for excellent drainage and optimal root development. The predominant variety in these vineyards is Xarel.lo, although Macabeo and Parellada are also grown. The winery follows ecological practices, without the use of insecticides or herbicides, which guarantees the production of high quality grapes and a greater intensity in its wines.
One of the winery's most outstanding projects is the recovery of a vineyard planted in 1944, which has become a symbol of tradition and commitment to quality. This old vineyard, along with other emblematic plots such as Viña Damiana, produces grapes that go into the winery's most exclusive cavas, such as Clos Damiana and Mas Vía.
