The Domaine De La Grand Cour winery is located in the prestigious Beaujolais region of France, specifically in the Fleurie area. This family winery has been owned by the Dutraive family since 1969, when Jean-Louis's father Jean acquired the vineyard in Fleurie. Jean-Louis Dutraive, who succeeded his father in 1989, is a respected vigneron with a deeply rooted focus on tradition and innovation. Under his leadership, the winery received Ecocert organic certification in 2009, reflecting his commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly growing practices.
Vineyards
Domaine De La Grand Cour extends over 11.5 hectares, with 9.7 ha in the Cru Fleurie and 1.8 ha in the Cru Brouilly. The vineyards are planted mainly with the Gamay variety, on granitic and clay-limestone soils, characteristic of the Beaujolais region. These soils contribute significantly to the aromatic and taste profile of the wines. The altitude of the vineyards varies, with some located at 350 metres above sea level, which influences the microclimate and thus the ripening of the grapes. The average age of the vines is 40 to 50 years old, with some plots harbouring vines up to 70 years old. The winery practices sustainable agriculture, without the use of chemical fertilisers or herbicides, and with a yield of approximately 30 hl/ha.
Philosophy
At Domaine De La Grand Cour, the winemaking philosophy focuses on minimum intervention and maximum respect for nature. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the grapes are processed in their most natural state, without destemming or crushing. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts and without the addition of sulphites. The wines are aged in oak barrels for 8 months, following a tradition that seeks to preserve the authentic expression of the terroir. The wines are neither filtered nor clarified, maintaining their pure and authentic character. The average annual production is 30,000 bottles, each one reflecting the dedication and artistry of the vigneron.
