Buy Wine from Les Vignes de Babass
The great personality behind the winery Les Vignes de Babass is Sébastien Dervieux, better known as Babass. First a rock artist, then a legend of sorts in the world of natural wine. In the late nineties, Sébastien Dervieux was part of Domaine des Griottes, alongside Patrick Desplat. Now he has decided to venture out on his own.
Les Vignes de Babass vineyard
He owns 2.4 hectares located in Beaulieu-sur-Layon, south of Angers, near the river Layon, which flows into the Loire Valley (France). He has freely taken up the cultivation of cabernet franc, grolleau and chenin blanc, some planted around 1956. He likes to spend a lot of time with the plants, and the climate of the region is conducive to the growth of the grapes. Together with Jean-Christophe Garnier, he organises the Les Vins Anonymes event in Angers. It is a meeting of artisan vignerons to exchange ideas, techniques and thoughts on natural winemaking, without sulphites and without additives. This is why, over time, Babass has become one of the most emblematic producers in the area, as well as an assured guest at the most important wine fairs.
Wines of Les Vignes de Babass
This rebel from Anjou creates wines that are easy to drink but wild. His cellar is housed in an old, partially open barn, so he leaves the wine exposed to the wind and local temperatures, whether it's windy, cold, hot or humid. Their most famous bottles are Les Vignes de Babass Le Groll N'Roll 2018, 100% fragrant and light grolleau, the captivating cabernet franc, Les Vignes de Babass Roc Cab' 2018 and Les Vignes de Babass Brutal Babass 2017, an ancestral and crazy chenin blanc. These are aromatic, strong wines that express themselves in their pure state. A wine as natural as the hands that created it.
