Buy Wine from Domaine Lagille
The philosophy of those who are involved in the processes in this winery is to prevail the care of nature and let it express itself through winemaking.
The Domaine Lagille winery is located in the village of Treslon, about 20 kilometres from Reims, in the Marne Valley; a small territory with an important cultural heritage and a long winemaking tradition, which dates back to Gallo-Roman times.
Vineyards where a Pinot Meunier grape species predominates, with a clay-calcareous soil that gives an enormous extra to the quality of the fruit. It is a winery specialised in monocépages, with the exception of the Grande Réserve which is a blend of exquisite grape varieties.
Their vineyards are organically farmed and certified organic. Their ploughing and cultivation is done in the traditional way with their own horses. Besides grapes, there are also other crops such as peas that contribute to the aroma and flavour of the wine.
Let's talk about its history
The village Treslon is steeped in history and tradition, as it was home to a family who cared for, cultivated and worked the land since the mid-17th century. For brothers Vincent and Maud, the value of tradition and the expression they wish to convey in each wine is of the utmost importance.
Maud and Vincent, two of the driving forces behind this project, are two brothers who are 13 years apart in age, but their dream and desire has always been the same and more than clear: to care for and protect the vineyard.
In 2012 Vincent joined the adventure, full of ideas and dreams, proposing new methods of cultivation, winemaking, brand image, and the idea of establishing an organised work with solid strategies. He wants to experiment, innovate and develop his family's heritage.
Nature and work in the vineyard is the passion of the people behind this project, as it represents the heritage of their childhood and, therefore, they do not consider it just a job, but they carry it within their being.
Techniques used
All the wines are fermented for a period of 10 months in oak with a minimum of sulphite, and then bottled for the sur latte period.
This is now much shorter than before, as initially the ripening and autolysis process was much longer. Nowadays, it is possible to harvest the fruit at an increasingly ripe stage, so that the yield is considerably reduced.
The significant result allows sufficient maturity in the cuvée for a less prolonged maturation and a reduced dosage.
After disgorging, the wines undergo an additional 6-month maturation process with natural cork before leaving the estate.
Vineyards
With 7.20 hectares of vineyards and a cultivation characterised by following the parameters of organic viticulture since 2019, the mission is based on respecting nature and following the marked path.
It is here that the queens of the Champagne region are grown and cultivated, which are divided as follows: 55% Meunier, 30% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir.
The three queens of Champagne
The wines produced at Domaine Lagille are mainly characterised by the variety of grapes grown there, known as the three great queens, which are: Meunier, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Three examples defined by their exquisiteness, unique taste and special nuances in each vintage.
