Its history
Bodegas y Viñedos Mengoba was founded in 2007 by Gregory Pérez. His philosophy for managing the winery and producing his wines is based on the respect and sustainability of the vineyard.
To this end, they apply non-aggressive treatments, without herbicides, and work with native varieties at low yields, knowing the soils and vinifying with traditional methods.
Gregory Pérez is a renowned oenologist of French origin, who studied at the School of Oenology and Viticulture in the Bordeaux district of the commune and town of Blanquefort, in France.
After gaining experience in different wineries he went to Bierzo in Spain. Once there, he worked for several years before establishing his winery in 2007.
Location of the winery
Bodegas y Viñedos Mengoba is located in San Juan de Carracedo in León, a short distance from the beautiful and historic Monastery of Santa María de Carracedo built in the 12th century. Quality wines are produced there under the Bierzo Denomination of Origin.
This winery has stainless steel tanks of various capacities, as well as foudres and French oak barrels for the fermentation and maturation of its white and red wines.
Characteristics of the vineyards
The vineyards with which Gregory Pérez works are located in Espanillo (León), in the Bierzo region, at the headwaters of the river Cúa.
These vineyards have been planted on steep slopes at an altitude of over 600 metres above sea level, oriented and ventilated by constant air currents.
The soil is composed of a combination of clay and decomposed slate, in the midst of a wooded environment of great natural diversity.
The climate in this area is mild and temperate with high humidity. The average annual temperature is 12.3 °C, with a minimum of 3.6 °C in winter and a maximum of 23.6 °C in summer.
With these natural qualities described, from his winery, the oenologist Gregory Pérez leads the new generation in the elaboration of the great wines of Spain under a philosophy that seeks respect and sustainability of the vineyard.
