Buy Wine from Mas Martinet Viticultors
Mas Martinet Viticulors is one of the pioneering wineries in Priorat. It produces organic wines and has recovered traditional grape varieties that have disappeared.
The winery belongs administratively to the municipality of Falset, but it is part of the Gratallops wine-growing area.
A brief history
The founder of the winery is the renowned oenologist, researcher and teacher José Luis Pérez, who became one of the protagonists in the rebirth of Priorat, although he had a long road to travel.
In 1986, he met the renowned oenologist René Barbier, a great wine connoisseur, who had started working in the Priorat and together they began to conceive the idea of what a good wine should be like.
Therefore, in 1986, Pérez and his family consolidated their winery project, paying special attention to the vineyard, the working techniques, the varieties, the climate and the soil.
In 1992, he produced one of the first harvests and labelled his first wine, made from a combination of Garnacha, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Carignan.
The whole adventure was not easy, but with hard work, respect for the terroir and a passion for creating a good wine, José Luís Pérez found his place in the world in the Priorat.
Founding of the winery
The Mas Martinet Viticulors winery was founded in 1986 by the Valencian José Luis Pérez, one of the leading figures in the resurgence of Priorat.
For its consolidation, the different varieties, the climate and the soil were studied, and these studies were used in the vineyards to produce the different wines. Today, Clos Martinet wine is one of the most valued wines in Spain, together with Martinet Bru and Cami Pesseroles.
Director of the winery
The winery is currently managed by José Luis Pérez's daughter, Sara Pérez, who is also the winemaker of the Venus La Universal winery.
Sara Pérez manages the vineyard, the olive trees and the forest under the guidelines of agroecology, recovering traditional varieties that have almost disappeared and with the same love of her father towards the creation of good wine.
Work techniques in the vineyards
In 2000, the winery began to manage the vineyard, the olive groves and the forest as a single agro-system, under the guidelines of agro-ecology.
The crops are worked in an ecological way, being as respectful as possible with all the processes.
On the other hand, we have recovered traditional varieties that have almost disappeared and we work, making a wine from each of the estates to reflect the unique landscape of their terroir and natural environment.
They even follow a lunar calendar to make the most of traditionalnatural treatments in the vineyards, such as compost and herbal infusions.
With all these techniques, the aim is to produce wines that are true to their terroir and maintain harmony with nature by reinventing processes and materials with minimal intervention.
In the words of this famous oenologist; "A wine is a creation, a personal idea, and art is priceless...".
And you, have you already tasted some of the impressive wines of this winery? Leave us your comments!
