Buy Wine from Fumey Chatelain
In the heart of the French Jura, among hillsides of marl, limestone and persistent mist, flourishes Fumey-Chatelain. Founded in 1986 by Adeline Fumey and Raphaël Chatelain, it began as a grape producer, but after the devastating frost of 1991, they decided to vinify their own grapes. Thus was born a winery that today is an essential reference for understanding the new language of the Jura.
Under the direction of his son, Marin Fumey, trained among vineyards in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, the winery has evolved towards a more conscious viticulture. Since 2015, he has been in charge of winemaking, with a philosophy centred on the pure expression of terroir, in harmony with the environment. Today, they cultivate 17 hectares spread over more than 20 plots between Montigny-lès-Arsures and Arbois.
Viticulture without artifice
The transition to organic - with biodynamic practices in many plots - has been natural. The work in the vineyard is meticulous: spontaneous plant cover, gentle treatments and manual harvesting. In the winery, the character of the grapes is respected: fermentation with indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention, no fining or filtering. Everything is at the service of precision and the truth of the place.
In Marin's words: "The best wines are the simplest". This simplicity is not basic, but essential: allowing the landscape to speak through the glass without make-up or effects.
The reinterpreted Jura
Fumey-Chatelain represents a new generation of winemakers who move away from the traditional oxidative style of the Jura, opting for fresher, more vertical and cleaner wines. They do not deny their heritage, but reinterpret it with freshness and naturalness.
In whites, their cuvée Fumey Chatelain Arbois Chardonnay shows yellow fruit, white flowers and a minerality that evokes wet stone. Fumey Chatelain Savagnin Ouillé, aged without oxidation, reveals notes of citrus, almond and sea salt, with a tension that caresses the palate.
Its Fumey Chatelain Vin Jaune, aged under veil for more than six years, is a jewel of precision and character. Aromas of walnut, curry, dried apple and that saline echo so typical of the Jura. A deep, meditative sensory experience that speaks of time and patience.
In reds, their Ploussard and Trousseau are extraordinarily delicate. Whole cluster fermented and aged in foudres or neutral tanks, they offer fresh red fruit, subtle structure and a light but persistent profile. Special mention should be made of the Fumey Chatelain Non Sin Tou Tsefs, a vibrant red wine, with no added sulphites, which encapsulates the spontaneity of the house.
Wines with meaning
To drink a Fumey-Chatelain wine is to immerse oneself in a modern, luminous and honest Jura. Each bottle tells a story of respect, territory and evolution without dogma. Marin Fumey does not seek to impose a style, but to accompany the wine to its most authentic form.
Despite its family size, the winery's projection is global. Its wines are present on the best tables and in the best wine shops in Poundpe, the USA and Asia. What attracts is not only their quality, but their coherence: a modern narrative anchored in the essentials
