Buy Wine from Viñedos y Bodegas Áster
The story of Áster began with a conviction: that Ribera del Duero could offer more than just power. In the early 1990s, La Rioja Alta embarked on a demanding search for the most expressive soils, climates and plots in the area. The result was Áster, a winery that since 2000 has combined patience, precision and a clear vision of excellence. It was only after years of trials and carefully assessed harvests - some even discarded for not meeting their standards - that the first wine was presented under the name Áster.
Today, with more than 80 hectares of its own vineyards between Anguix and La Horra, at an altitude of more than 800 metres, Áster represents the essence of Tempranillo at altitude. In these clay and loam soils, the variety finds a refined expression, with a balance between fruit, structure and freshness. The altitude and continental climate set the pace for a demanding but hugely rewarding viticulture.
A winery tailored to the landscape
Designed to integrate beauty and functionality, the Áster winery is sober, elegant and practical. The winemaking hall, overlooking the vineyard, reflects the transparency with which wine is conceived: what you see, feel and drink. In the barrel room, built to house thousands of French oak barrels, silence reigns: there, time and wood modulate the voice of the wine without imposing themselves.
A style with a double soul
Áster wines have a clear and plural identity. On the one hand, we find classic references, such as Áster Crianza or Finca El Otero, which capture the depth, density and nobility of the Ribera del Duero. On the other, proposals such as Áster El Espino show a more contemporary profile: tension, energy, freshness. Two paths that stem from the same origin: a mature vineyard, precision oenological techniques and a philosophy that favours quality over quantity.
Many of the vines are over thirty years old and are grown on trellises, which facilitates rational and meticulous vineyard management. Everything is aimed at achieving healthy, balanced grapes with the necessary character to withstand long and expressive ageing.
The art of winemaking
Harvesting by hand allows for an initial selection in the vineyard. Then, each bunch is passed through a selection table where only the best grapes continue their journey. At Áster, the fermentations are adjusted to the expression of each plot; the ageing, mostly in new or semi-new French oak, aims to provide structure without hiding the wine 's character. There is precision, but without rigidity; technique, but without losing intuition.
The result is Áster wines with body, but also with elegance. Powerful, but without excess. With fruit, but also with minerality. Wines that age with dignity and gain nuances over the years.
Áster in Ribera del Duero today
Áster is not just another winery. It is a statement of intent within Ribera del Duero. Its careful approach, its balance between classicism and modernity, and its commitment to excellence have made it a benchmark name. Its winery, open to wine tourism, invites you to discover a higher, more elegant and reflective Ribera. In each bottle of Áster you can feel the landscape, the Altura, the wisdom of the land and the hand that knows how to interpret it.
