Buy Wine from Allante Boulanger
The Allante & Boulanger winery is located in the heart of the Jura, specifically in the villages of Gizia and Rotalier. This winemaking project is the fruit of the collaboration between Mathieu Allante and Christian Boulanger, two wine enthusiasts who decided to join forces and knowledge to create exceptional wines.
Christian Boulanger, who has been with Domaine Labet for more than 15 years, is considered a member of this winemaking family, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep knowledge of the Jura terroir. Together with Mathieu Allante, who also worked with the Labets, they have been acquiring and leasing small plots over the years, recovering historic vineyards and bringing their vision of viticulture to life.Vineyards
The Allante & Boulanger vineyards cover approximately 3.2 hectares, spread over plots located between the villages of Gizia and Rotalier, at altitudes varying between 250 and 450 metres. These plots benefit from a continental climate, with soils composed of Triassic and Jurassic marl over Bajocian limestone. The mostly south and west facing slopes, together with the diversity of soils, contribute to the uniqueness of the wines. The winery has undertaken a remarkable effort in Gizia, clearing abandoned vineyards and planting a wide variety of indigenous Jura grapes, as well as Pineau d'Aunis and Mondeuse, in a stunning natural setting surrounded by majestic cliffs.
Philosophy
Allante & Boulanger 's philosophy focuses on making wines that reflect the purity and authentic expression of their terroir. They practice viticulture inspired by permaculture and biodynamics, with a minimalist approach to winemaking. The winery, located in the basement of a former parish church, employs winemaking techniques that include the use of whole bunches for the whites and manual destemming for the reds. Fermentation is slow, and ageing takes place in wooden vats of various shapes and sizes, without fining or filtration, and bottling is done manually by gravity. This artisanal approach, together with their commitment to financial independence and uncompromising creativity, reflects their leitmotif of producing wines free of additives, true to the wild nature and community that surrounds them.
Allante & Boulanger represents one of the most exciting projects in Jura, with a clear potential for progress and excellence. Their dedication to the recovery of historic vineyards and their focus on natural winemaking are a testament to their passion and respect for the land and the region's winemaking tradition.
