Buy Wine from Vino di Anna
The Vino di Anna winery is located on the high northern slopes of Mount Etna, near the village of Solicchiata in Sicily. This small family estate was established when Anna Martens and Eric Narioo made their first wine together on Mount Etna in 2008. In 2010, the couple acquired their first vineyard of old vines of Nerello Mascelese on the Crasà plot, along with a nearby ruined stone mill and tank. Today, the family wine estate owns 7 hectares of land spread across the northern slopes of the volcano, which they farm biodynamically.
History
Anna Martens, originally from Adelaide, South Australia, has been involved in winemaking for over thirty years. She met Eric Narioo in 2004, which led her to change her approach to making Super Tuscans. Eric, an early advocate of natural wines, took her on a trip to Savoie, Jura and Loire to see how winemakers cultivated their land and created their wines. Anna was fascinated and, together with Eric, they decided to find their own vineyard to work together. In 2008, they created their first wine "Vino di Anna Rosso".
Eric Narioo, French, has been in the wine industry forever. Passionate about wine, Eric has been searching for terroir wines from all over the world for years. As well as being the managing director of the successful UK wine importing company Les Caves de Pyrene, he has been responsible for the vineyards and winemaking at "Vino di Anna" together with Anna.
Vineyards
The vineyards of Vino di Anna extend from the picturesque iron-rich red soils of the Monte Pomiciaro parcel near Linguaglossa to Piano Filici, through the Rampante and Pirao parcel, which touches the National Park at an altitude of 1000 metres, and ends on the northwest side of the volcano with vineyards at Nave and Tartaraci. The soils are decomposed black lava (volcanic), except around Linguaglossa, where they are bright red, full of iron. The mineral content is very high, which gives the wines a remarkable sapidity. The wines are made with minimal intervention, indigenous yeasts, no additives, no fining or filtering and little or no sulphur
Philosophy
Eric and Anna's aim is to make wines that are flavoursome, expressive, true to their origin and reflect the character of the vintage. All vineyards are tended by hand and grown without the use of chemicals. Only healthy, ripe grapes are harvested by hand during the months of September and October. Their combined experience and continuous desire to seek typicity, minerality and drinkability is reflected in the glass. The "Vino di Anna" wine range includes 3 white wines, one rosé and 8 red wines.
