Buy Wine from Clos du Tue Boeuf
Thierry Puzelat and his brother Jean-Marie decided more than twenty years ago to take over their family estate in Loir-et-Cher in the Centre-Loire Valley region of France.
In 1999, thanks to their extensive experience, they decided to make wine on their own. Both brothers are pioneers in the world of French natural wine, taking the decision to make pure, clean wines, without "ingredients", and sometimes without sulphur dioxide.
Location of the winery
The Clos du Tue Boeuf winery is located in a place called Tue-Bœuf, in the municipality of Montils.
Between the territories of Touraine and Cheverny, this winery produces wines only under the Cheverny appellation. The plots located on the territory of the Touraine appellation now produce Vins de France.
History of the winery
History shows that the wines produced in Tue-Bœuf in the Montils since the 15th century were the favourites of the royal tables and that they were particularly attached to them.
From 1947, Jean and Solange Puzelat took over the Tue-Bœuf winery from Jean's parents.
Then in the 1960s, the Puzelat brothers' father made his own selections of vines to replant.
He thus left his sons splendid vines of Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Menu Pineau (or Orbois), Pinot Noir, Gamay, Cabernet Franc and Côt.
Jean-Marie Puzelat was the first to make the decision to return to the family winery. After several years of experience, he took over the vineyard in 1990. Thierry waited a little longer and returned in 1994.
Jean-Marie retired in 2018 and today Thierry Puzelat is fully in charge of the estate, recently joined by his daughter Zöe.
Biodynamic techniques
The Puzelat brothers agreed early on to eliminate all additives in the vineyard and wines, converting completely to organic vineyards by 1996 and eliminating the use of cultured yeasts and sulphur almost entirely.
The vineyards are farmed organically and the winemaking processes are low intervention and avoid the use of additives, only indigenous yeasts and very low doses of sulphites.
The Puzelat brothers, Jean-Marie and Thierry, have worked closely with nature to create fine, easy-drinking organic wines with lots of character and personality.
The vineyards
The vineyards are planted on clay soils with flint on Blois limestone that extend over Touraine and Cheverny. There are also vineyards cultivated on flint clay soils, and others on sand with gravel.
Isolated from other agricultural areas, the Tue Boeuf vineyards are set in a mosaic of moors and forests that maintain a balanced ecosystem.
The age of the vines varies from site to site, but they are between 1 and 115 years old, the result of a vineyard renovation project set up in the 1960s by the parents of Thierry Puzelat and his brother Jean-Marie.
Wines
This winery produces a wide range of wines where the purity of each variety is respected. Each plot maintains its uniqueness and is vinified separately, to represent the wine of a place with its original characteristics.
