Buy Wine from Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo
Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo is placed in Sanlúcar de Barrameda and owned by the Hidalgo family, being one of the rare important wineries in the Jerez area which is still managed by a family.
Hidalgo family arrived to Jerez, from the north of Spain, back in the 18th century. They joined the wine world in 1972, when José Pantaleón Hidalgo purchases his father-in-law a small but splendidly located winery, in the very heart of the wine cellars neighbourhood of Sanlúcar.
Ever since, Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo has passed from father to son for five generations. Nowadays the family holds the entire propriety of the winery, and its members are in charge of the vineyard cultivation, production and distribution.
Vinícola Hidalgo has up to 200 hectares of grapevines of their own, located at Balbaina and Miraflores estates, two of the most renowned albarizas lands within Jerez.
The five generations in Bodegas Emilio Hidalgo and, specially their cellar's foremen, have kept the best casks. All the outstanding batches are chalk marked with a big “NO”, forbidding its use. Though at the beginning they were aimed to the particular family use, to prevent the continuous loss suffered as a result of evaporation, Hidalgo family has bring to light the forgotten “NO”, bottling hardly 100 boxes of these centennial wines. Thanks to this we can enjoy now Amontillado Viejo, Oloroso Viejo and Palo Cortado Viejo. These wines evince the reasons why Jerez wine is legendary worldwide.
