The Mascarello Giuseppe e Figlio winery is located in the heart of the Barolo wine region, in La Morra, a small town in the Italian Piedmont. Founded in 1881, this winery has witnessed five generations of the Mascarello family, each of whom has brought their passion and dedication to the art of winemaking.
The current vigneron, Mauro Mascarello, is the representative of the fourth generation and has been the pillar of the winery since 1967. Over the years, Mauro has worked in other relevant wineries, acquiring experience and knowledge that he has applied in Mascarello Giuseppe e Figlio to maintain the tradition and quality that characterises it.Vineyards
The Mascarello family property extends over 15 hectares of vineyards, all located within the Barolo wine-growing area. These vineyards benefit from a soil composed of clay-sandy loam, with a high concentration of active limestone, and together with the sun exposure and the specific microclimate, provide the ideal conditions for the production of quality wines. Some of the most outstanding vineyards include Monprivato, Bricco, Codana, Toetto, S. Stefano di Perno, Villero and Scudetto del S. Stefano di Perno. Each of these vineyards has unique characteristics in terms of soil composition, altitude and orientation, which contribute to the diversity and complexity of the wines produced.
Philosophy
The Mascarello Giuseppe e Figlio winery prides itself on its traditional and sustainable approach to winemaking. Over the decades, the family has applied a series of rules and self-limitations to ensure the quality of their wines. These include short pruning in winter, removal of imperfect clusters in spring, and a production limited to no more than 6-6.5 tons of grapes per hectare. In addition, the winery practices integrated pest management, avoiding the use of pesticides unless essential, and does not use herbicides or desiccants. Fertilisation is kept to a minimum and priority is given to the use of natural organic fertilisers. This philosophy not only reflects the family's respect for the land and the environment, but also ensures that each bottle produced is a true reflection of the terroir and tradition of the Barolo region.
