Buy Wine from Dominio de Tares
Dominio de Tares is a winery that entered the new national wine scene since 2000, being a clear reference of the modern Bierzo wines in Castilla y León, Spain.
From its first vintage, it placed the Bierzo D.O. on the map of emerging areas with quality wines.
In the production of red wines, this winery has been a pioneer in El Bierzo. In this context, its Dominio de Tares Cepas Viejas was the wine that best identified the singularity of the Mencía variety.
A little of the history of the Dominio de Tares Winery
The Dominio de Tares winery was founded in 2000 in the heart of El Bierzo. Its origin is linked to a group of friends who trusted in the possibilities of the autochthonous varieties of the area, obtaining products of high expression.
The first achievement of the founders has been the acquisition of old vineyards aged between 40 and 90 years old, distributed among the three best wine-growing areas of El Bierzo.
These areas where the vineyards are located are: Valtuille, Viladecanes and Parandones in Bierzo Bajo, on the slopes of San Lorenzo, Otero and Salas de los Barrios in Bierzo Medio and in the hills of San Román de Bembibre in Bierzo Alto.
Thus, this winery has become one of the influential wineries in the wine sector in general.
This achievement is due to the combination of several factors, among which are: a professional and highly creative team, a land with a wide diversity of soils and microclimates, and the best native grapes, especially Mencía and Godello, two varieties with a marked personality, soft and elegant.
Winery location
The Dominio de Tares Winery is located in Bierzo Alto, in the town of San Román de Bembibre, in a privileged area surrounded by vineyards of impressive quality.
Production of unbeatable wines
Dominio de Tares uses traditional methods in cultivation and winemaking. In this way, the full essence of the grape can be extracted under optimum conditions.
In the words of Rafael Somonte, technical director of the Bodegas Dominio de Tares Group since 2014, 'the wines are made with the grape's own yeast and a minimum amount of sulphites'.
The fundamental purpose is to produce great red and white wines with the maximum expression and pure character of indigenous varieties.
For this reason, the bodega has been a forerunner in the production of red wines for ageing in the Bierzo Denomination of Origin, with the native Mencía grape variety and white wines for ageing with the Godello grape variety.
In addition, the winery also produces wines with the Prieto Picudo variety, the rosé Tombú, and the reds Estay and Cumal.
Dominio de Tares has contributed to placing Bierzo on the world wine map by showcasing the gastronomic and tourist attractions of this rich region of León.
