Buy Wine from Radikon
The Radikon winery is located in the Friuli region, specifically in the town of Oslavia, in Gorizia, in the heart of the Collio, near the border with Slovenia. This winery is an essential point of reference in Friuli, which has served as an example for many to follow over the years. The Radikon story begins in 1977 when Stanko Radikon began to personally take care of viticulture on his father's land. Stanko, together with his wife Suzana, ran the winery since the late 1970s. Today, the winery is in the hands of his son, winemaker Sasa.
History
The Radikon family has deep roots in viticulture, recorded since 1861 when they settled in a deed of sale of land. In 1923, they established the right of ownership of the land. Although they started as a typical family subsistence farm in 1950, producing vegetables, animals, fruit and some wine in bulk, it was in 1980 that Stanko made the first bottling of the 1979 vintage. Since then, the winery has experienced numerous milestones and evolutions in its wine production.
Vineyards
Radikon has 12 hectares of vineyards located in the vicinity of the winery. These vineyards are situated on steep slopes, which makes them difficult to work. However, the terrain is perfect for viticulture, composed of sandy and loamy stratifications of ecocenic origin, known in this region as Ponka. The grape varieties grown include Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Malvasia Istriana and Pinot Grigio, as well as traditional varieties such as Chardonnay and Merlot.
Philosophy
Radikon's philosophy focuses on unique and uncompromising production, closely linked to the oldest traditions of the region. This includes spontaneous fermentations, long macerations (even for white grapes), very long ageing and minimal or no sulphite additions. Stanko Radikon was a pioneer in abandoning chemicals in the vineyard and in the winery, opting for long macerations in wooden tanks. This philosophy has led to wines that are pure and unconventional expressions of Collio, unique and inimitable, different in every vintage.
Radikon wines are known for their character and personality, and require patience, attention and great dedication. Stanko Radikon, as a great wine craftsman, was able to create an original and very personal style combining innovation and tradition, opening the way with his orange wines to many other artisanal producers and leaving an indelible mark in the oenological history of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
