Buy Wine from Wittmann
The Wittmann winery is located in the heart of Rheinhessen, one of Germany's most prestigious wine regions. The winery has its roots in the village of Westhofen, a place that has witnessed the Wittmann family's passion and dedication to wine for more than three centuries. Founded in 1663, the Wittmann winery has been passed down from generation to generation, establishing itself as a benchmark in the production of high quality wines in the region.
The current vigneron, Philipp Wittmann, has taken the family legacy to new heights. Before taking over the family winery, Philipp gained experience in internationally renowned wineries, which allowed him to hone his winemaking skills and vision.Vineyards
Wittmann's vineyards are spread over an exceptional terroir that has been carefully selected to produce wines of the highest quality. The predominant soil in these vineyards is deep and rich, ideal for growing vines. In addition, the presence of underground springs in specific areas, such as Brunnenhäuschen and Morstein, provides essential hydration to the vines, especially during dry summers. Rheinhessen's climate is moderate, with warm summers and cold winters, allowing for a slow and balanced ripening of the grapes. The winery has a total of 25 hectares of vineyards, each with unique characteristics that are reflected in the wines they produce.
Philosophy
Wittmann's philosophy focuses on producing wines that faithfully reflect the terroir of Rheinhessen. The winery employs traditional winemaking techniques, combined with modern innovations, to ensure the pure and authentic expression of the wine. One of Wittmann's distinctive techniques is the meticulous selection of grapes according to the age of the vines. For example, in 2019, all grapes from vines younger than 15 years were processed and vinified separately, while only grapes from older vines were used for the Erste and Grosse Lagen crus. This decision reflects Wittmann's commitment to quality and authenticity in every bottle.
