Buy Wine from Alain Moueix
Alain Moueix Château Fonroque, an emblem of oenological excellence, is located a few hundred metres northwest of the picturesque village of Saint-Émilion. This historic vineyard extends over 17.6 hectares, spread over a plateau and a west-facing slope.
Vineyards
Château Fonroque 's vineyards are characterised by a geological diversity that brings a unique richness to its wines. The terrain is mainly composed of three types of soil: a limestone plateau, a calcareous clay slope and loam sandy clay at the base of the hill. This mixture of soils, together with the influence of the Dordogne river, creates an exceptional terroir. The limestone provides elegance and finesse, while the clay provides structure and depth. The combination of these elements, together with a favourable climate, enables Château Fonroque to produce wines with distinctive complexity and character.
Philosophy
The winemaking philosophy at Château Fonroque focuses on harmony with nature and authentic expression of terroir. The winery has adopted biodynamic practices, a pioneering decision made by Alain Moueix in 2002. This approach respects the natural balance of the vineyard and promotes the health of the soil and vines. The new fermentation room, inaugurated with the 2021 vintage, reflects this philosophy. Designed with a geobiological study and proportions based on the golden ratio, the room uses noble materials and natural light to create an environment that favours the quality and expression of the wine. The winery has also doubled the number of its tanks, allowing for greater precision and gentleness in extraction, resulting in wines of exceptional quality.
