Buy Wine from Clos Mogador
René Barbier, the founder of the Clos Mogador winery, comes from a family of renowned French winegrowers.
He trained at the most prestigious oenological schools in Bordeaux, Borgonya and Limoux.
Moreover, his experience in the world of wine includes not only the production of his own wines, but also the commercial side of the business.
In 1979, René Barbier acquired his first estate in Priorat, when the wines of the area were totally unknown, and so he began to vinify his first wine in this area with the star wine Clos Mogador.
Subsequently, his other masterpieces Nelin, Manyetes and Espectacle del Montsant were produced.
The winery
René Barbier was one of the first to put his efforts and work into a difficult region that had been quite forgotten until then, promoting his wines at a national and international level.
The Clos Mogador winery is the result of the experience and knowledge of many generations that preceded its founder.
Its origins can be traced back to 1978. In that year René Barbier, his wife and children bought some hectares of Grenache vineyards in Gratallops in an area of the Priorat appellation of origin.
Their arrival coincides with that of other founders of renowned wineries in this region such as Josep Lluís Pérez (Mas Martinet Viticultors), Carles Pastrana (Costers del Siurana), Dafne Glorian (Clos i Terrasses) and, a little later, Álvaro Palacios.
Vineyards
The vineyards are also located in the very heart of Priorat, in the village of Gratallops and in the most extreme terroir of the region.
On the other hand, the grapes used to make the wines come from soils with a characteristic composition of local llicorella, composed of partially decomposed slate and quartz.
In addition, the vineyards have been certified organic since 2012.
Wines
The grapes used to make the exquisite wines of the Clos Mogador winery are harvested by hand at their optimum point of ripeness.
The wines are made with great care, taking into account the lunar phases (new moon) when bottling.
In 2000, the winery began to produce a white wine called Nelin and a red wine called Manyetes. In 2014 the red wine Com Tu from the D.O. Montsant was created.
The winery's flagship wine, Clos Mogador, is a reserve wine made from Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon in the Priorat appellation in Catalonia, Spain.
The oenologist René Barbier, directs all his efforts so that his wines reflect the traditional character of the region and he says that he has a great weakness for the Garnacha variety.
And you, have you already tasted some of the impressive wines from this winery? Leave us your comments!
