Buy Wine from Bodegas Mauro
Bodegas Mauro is the winery of winemaker Mariano García in the lands of Castilla y León. The Bodega Mauro 2 winery is located in the Toro appellation, both wineries are named in homage to his father.
History
At the end of the 1970s, Mariano García acquired four hectares of old vines in Tudela del Duero. These vineyards laid the foundations for the development of his personal project, which consisted of the renowned Bodega Mauro.
In time, Mariano García established himself as a great figure in the world of oenology and the winery's first wine under the name of Mauro became one of the most awaited wines by wine lovers.
Since 2004, Eduardo García, son of the famous winemaker Mariano García, has been the technical and viticultural director of the winery.
Location of the winery
The winery is located in an old 17th century mansion in the centre of the town of Tudela de Duero, where wine used to be made in the old days.
Tudela de Duero is a historic town in the province of Valladolid, 19 km from the capital, in the heart of the Duero Valley.
In 2004 the winery was enlarged with spacious and functional facilities close to the town, where four wines are produced: Mauro, Mauro VS, Terreus and Mauro Godello.
The total capacity of the winery is 215,000 litres. The tanks are made of stainless steel with a capacity of 12,000 litres.
Vineyards
Bodegas Mauro works with its own vineyards and those of collaborating vine growers who have organic certification. However, although the wine comes from organic grapes and vineyards, the certification is not used for any of the wines.
The total vineyard surface is distributed over 80 hectares cultivated with Tempranillo and Syrah where clay-limestone soils predominate.
The main philosophy of the winery is the respect for an ecological orientation in the cultivation of the vines and grapes during the winemaking and ageing processes, always with the aim of obtaining unique and fine wines, with a clear fruity expression.
Applied viticultural techniques
The grapes are harvested in 20 kg crates and sorted at the winery entrance. Gravity is used during vinification to avoid pumping over.
Fermentations are independent for each vineyard and each grape variety and maceration with the skins varies between 4 days and three weeks depending on the vintage.
For ageing, French Allier and Nevers oak barrels and American oak barrels are used, with a suitable percentage being renewed each year.
On the other hand, most of the production is destined to the national market and the rest of the bottled wine is destined to 28 countries.
Wines
Since 1978, Bodegas Mauro has been characterised by producing quality red wines with a vocation for ageing and limited productions.
These wines also reflect the identity of the terroir and the characteristics of the grape varieties, with reduced ageing to favour the expression of the fruit.
In short, they are wines that are born from a selection of the best vineyards, influenced by the altitude and age of the vines. They are elegant, balanced, modern, with great personality and great potential.
And you, have you already tasted some of the impressive wines of this winery? Leave us your comments!
