The Oriol Artigas winery is characterised by producing wines that are defined as organic, as it ensures that the ancestral work of the grape prevails at each stage and that the intervention of chemicals is kept to a minimum.
The aim of the winegrower is to achieve the maximum expression of the grape in a more natural way, so that its ancestral flavour can be enjoyed in every sip.
The grapes grown in these vineyards are varied, with different types of Garnacha, Pansa Blanca, Syrah, Jaqué, Sarel.lo, Grenache, Lledoner and Sumoll. Each one with particularities that make these wines a delight for every palate.
Let's talk about their history
Oriol Artigas is a winegrower born in Vilassar de Dalt, like thirteen generations of his family. His roots in these lands not only involved him in the production of local wines from a very early age, but also motivated him to create his own version of this majestic drink.
It was at this point in his life that Francesc Tartera, a local character with a long career in the wine industry, appeared and offered Oriol some vineyards and a small winery so that he could start his project, in exchange for working the land.
From that moment on, Oriol dedicated himself to creating a wide variety of wines, managing to increase production and make his brand known through a varied catalogue of textures and flavours that pleases the tastes of exquisite palates.
The philosophy that has accompanied him until now is to cultivate the vineyards with ancestral techniques, and less and less interventionist, achieving that the harvested fruit can express in the fermentation and ageing, the roots from where it comes from.
The vineyards are made up of 12 hectares of old vines, where you can notice the proliferation of diverse vegetation among the vines. It is important to point out that the vineyards are mainly worked with the use of the lunar calendar.
Techniques used
Highlighting its philosophy of cultivating the vineyards in a natural and less interventionist way, the process of harvesting and manual destemming begins, in order to ensure that the fruit arrives fresh at the pressing stage.
Once in the winery, the Merlot grapes are pressed directly, unlike the Garnacha, which is destemmed, and the Syrah, which is processed whole.
After the extraction of the juice from the grapes, this extract is taken to a spontaneous fermentation process without the addition of any chemicals, and then aged in steel tanks, which is where the particularity of its flavour is accentuated.
Finally, it is bottled without filtering, which determines the texture that characterises the wines of this winery, without adding sulphur during the process and maintaining the philosophy of natural processing.
The production of these wines expresses in each sip, the roots where they come from, denoting the exclusivity that the winemaker proposes in his project.
Vineyards
The vineyards of this winery are made up of 12 hectares of land that are defined as old. They are located in the coastal area of Alella, which determines the salinity in the taste of its wines, as well as the transparency that evokes the Mediterranean.
Organic wines
The wines of this winery are defined as organic, as the vineyards are worked organically and without the intervention of chemicals or industrialised techniques. The result of the processing of the grapes harvested here are balanced and transparent wines with saline tones that express the proximity of the crops to the Mediterranean.
