Description
In the heart of the Côte de Nuits, south of Gevrey-Chambertin and under the shadow of the legendary Chambertin, maison Louis Jadot grows one of its great wines: Louis Jadot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru. The vineyard sits on calcareous soils and clay loams, with an ideal exposure that favours slow and balanced ripening. It is here that the winery, true to its philosophy of minimal intervention and absolute respect for the terroir, produces a BurgundyPinot Noir that is a pure reflection of its origin. For decades, the grapes have been harvested by hand in small crates, a meticulous practice that prioritises the integrity of the grapes over mechanical efficiency. This decision - which many considered stubborn - has been key to maintaining the purity and character of this unique parcel. The result: a Burgundy Grand Cru of restrained elegance, rooted in the most classic tradition.
Winemaking
Once in the cellar, the clusters destined for Louis Jadot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru are carefully selected by hand before being destemmed. Fermentation takes place in open wooden or stainless steel vats, with maceration lasting up to four weeks. During this period, pigeage is carried out twice a day to extract tannins and aromatic complexity. Louis Jadot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, about a third of which are new. This ageing adds structure without overshadowing the wine's identity.
Taste
On the nose, Louis Jadot Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru displays layers of black cherry, ripe blackcurrant, damp earth and subtle spice. Over time, notes of fine leather, truffle, graphite and a touch of faint smoke emerge. The palate is ample, with polished tannins and vibrant acidity that sustains the wine to a long, precise finish, marked by its chalky minerality. A wine for contemplation, ideal for pairing with red meats, poultry or cured cheeses. A Grand Cru that does not seek to dazzle with exuberance, but to thrill with depth and authenticity.
