Buy Wine from Opus One
Opus One Winery is located in California and is the realised dream of two men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley winemaker Robert Mondavi. Together, these founders set out to create a unique wine dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality. This singular mission shapes each vintage, today and for generations to come.
Rising gracefully among the vineyards, Opus One stands in subtle celebration of the land and open space surrounding the estate, a constant testament to the vision of its founders to create a singular wine capable of transcending generations.Vineyards
The Opus One estate is comprised of four meticulously tended vineyards. These vineyards, consisting of 4 parcels, are located in the western part of the famous Oakville appellation. Two of these parcels, covering a total of 40 hectares, are located within the renowned To Kalon Vineyard. These are complemented by 28 hectares of Ballestra and River parcels surrounding the winery. In these vineyards, harvesting is done by hand and traditional approaches are used, but modern techniques are also integrated where they benefit the winemaking process.
Philosophy
Opus One focuses on combining tradition and innovation. Good winemaking begins in the vineyard, and at Opus One, they honour traditional methods and the continuous search for innovation and improvement. Guided by the vision of its founders, winemaker Michael Silacci combines intuition and technical acumen with the dual perspective of viticulturist and winemaker. From the tasting of the berries to their extended ageing in new French oak barrels, each stage of the winemaking process is given equal attention and meticulous consideration. After 18 months, the wine is bottled and kept for a further 15 months until its presentation, which takes place on 1 October each year.
