Buy Wine from Bodegas Muga
Bodegas Muga is a family business that began with its founder Isaac Muga Martínez in 1932. Since then, three generations of the Muga family have formed part of the history of Rioja wine.
From that time to the present day it has remained a family business faithful to tradition and craftsmanship.
The history of the winery
Since it was founded in 1932, the years have passed and it continues to be a family winery, with a unique personality that has been transmitted to its wines.
Throughout the years it has maintained the tradition and craftsmanship of winemaking, together with a vision of the future. The wine and the essence of its wines come from its own vineyards in La Rioja Alta.
Location of the winery
The winery is currently located in a beautiful Riojan mansion, a two-hundred-year-old stone and oak building in the heart of Haro's wine-growing district, the Barrio de la Estación. Here, the most traditional winemaking methods are combined with the most avant-garde techniques.
The vineyards
The vineyards extend towards the northernmost part of the appellation, in La Rioja Alta, spread between the basins of the Oja and Tirón rivers. They are located in a climate shaped by Mediterranean, Atlantic and continental influences.
The soils have a calcareous-clay structure, which helps the grapes to form slowly and, consequently, to reach optimum ripeness.
Stages in the winemaking process
Muga wines are made following traditional winemaking methods that maintain the bouquet and structure expected from the classic wines of this region. A vision of the future is incorporated into this philosophy, which sets the course to be followed.
Firstly, at Bodegas Muga, the cooperage is handcrafted. The origin and quality of the American and French oak wood is monitored. The vats and barrels are built with the greatest care.
The winemaking process is distinguished by fermentation and maceration in wooden vats, progressive decanting throughout the winter, traditional racking by gravity and clarification with fresh egg whites.
The character and bouquet are obtained by ageing in oak barrels, resting in the bottle and the passage of time.
Guided tours
In 2008, the space called Torre Muga was inaugurated. This space is divided into three floors where different activities can be carried out, always with wine as the protagonist.
In order to make the quality of the wine of this winery known to all its visitors, this space has a reception area, a bright tasting room and a multifunctional space, perfect for company meetings, conventions, etc.
There is also a shop where you can taste the different wines.
And you, have you already tried the wines of Bodegas Muga? You will love them!
