Buy Wine from Bodegas y Viñedos Artazu
In the northern valleys of Navarre, where the soils keep ancient secrets and the wind whispers memories, Artazu arises, a winery that since 1996 has given a voice back to the forgotten Garnacha. Here, the red grape that reigned for centuries finds a new rebirth, honouring what it was and projecting what it can still be.
A territory with character
The Artazu vineyards extend between Artazu and San Martín de Unx, at altitudes ranging between 400 and 600 metres. The diversity of the terrain -limestone, sandy-clay soils, poor but expressive - and a climate of marked contrasts allow for a pure expression of the Atlantic Garnacha: fresh, vibrant wines, with a deep minerality and an unmistakable floral and fruity character. Where others saw abandonment, Artazu saw history. From its beginnings, the winery has been committed to the recovery of old vineyards, many of which are more than 80 years old. Vines with low yields but immense personality, cultivated with respect, without artifice, without unnecessary chemistry. Here, the land is worked with the hands, and we listen to it before intervening. The work in the winery follows the same philosophy: minimum intervention, maximum expression. Controlled fermentations, adjusted ageing, and an intelligent use of wood allow the wine to reflect its origin without make-up. Fruit is the protagonist, yes, but always accompanied by texture, structure and freshness. There are no dogmas, only sensitivity.
Wines with name and soul
Santa Cruz de Artazu is the standard bearer: Garnacha from centenary vines, elegant, with fine tannin, floral notes, red fruit and mineral background; a wine of power without weight and character without excess. Next to it, Pasos de San Martín, from vineyards in San Martín de Unx, offers a juicier, herbaceous and open Garnacha, ideal to discover this variety in its friendliest and most expressive version. For its part, Artazuri, available in red, white and rosé versions, captures the young soul of the Garnacha, especially its rosé, made by traditional bleeding, stands out for its liveliness and refreshing character.
Tradición that looks to the future
Artazu belongs to Juan Carlos López de Lacalle 's (Artadi) family of wineries, and shares his vision of respect for the vineyard, authenticity and precision. But here the voice is different: the Garnacha takes centre stage and expresses itself in the key of Navarre, with altitude, acidity and depth.
Each bottle of Artazu is an invitation to explore Navarre with the senses. To feel the altitude, the thermal contrast, the poor soils and the wisdom of vines that have stood the test of time. These are wines that are not content to please: they want to move you, to speak to you, to tell you where they come from.
Artazu does not make wine to show off, but to remember. It is bottled territory, it is liquid landscape. There is no artifice in their Garnachas, only truth. That is why drinking a wine from Artazu is to return to the essential, to the authentic, to what matters
