Buy Wine from Viñedos y Bodegas Pittacum
In 1998 Bodegas Pittacum was born with a clear ambition: to rescue the essence of the Mencía grape and give voice to the unique landscape of Bierzo. Located in Arganza, this great little winery has made authenticity its emblem. They did not seek to invent anything new, but to listen to what the land had to say. And they said it with wine.
An old, living and wise vineyard
The 40 hectares of vineyards that Pittacum works with -most of them with vines between 50 and 100 years old- are not simply arable land. They bear witness to generations. Each plot, each orientation, each metre of clay or slate soil tells a story. The Bierzo' s Atlantic-continental microclimate, with its cool nights and mild days, allows the Mencía to mature slowly, developing freshness, structure and a surprising aromatic complexity.
The winery: precision without artifice
Since Pittacum joined the Terras Gauda Group in 2002, it has maintained its artisanal soul, but with a technical drive and an even clearer philosophy: to intervene just enough. Winemaking is adapted to each vintage and plot. Barrels, yes, but without disguising the fruit. Ageing, yes, but at the service of balance. There are no dogmas here: only respect for the grape and for what the year has given us.
The wines: character without make-up
Petit Pittacum is the gateway: without oak, vibrant, direct, with notes of red fruits, wild flowers and that mineral background so typical of the Bierzo region. Pittacum Crianza goes one step further, with a selection of plots, subtle ageing, depth and elegance. A wine that reveals the soul of the Mencía grape, with ripe tannins and a long, spicy and fresh finish. Each bottle carries a part of Bierzo, not only because of the grape, but also because of the character, the restraint and the unadorned truth. Pittacum does not seek to impress, but to excite.
Visiting the winery: an experience that leaves its mark
Those who visit Pittacum understand that wine is lived here, not just produced. The 19th century mansion that houses the winery, the views over the valleys, the tastings in front of oak barrels and the talks with those who take care of each vine make the visit a journey to the heart of Bierzo wine.
Pittacum tastes of roots, of honesty, of landscape
More than a winery, Pittacum is a way of understanding wine. A declaration of principles that puts the land before fashion, the grape before technique, and flavour before artifice.
In every glass of Pittacum there is a promise fulfilled: that Bierzo has a lot to say. And here, it says it out loud
