Buy Wine from Pago de los Capellanes
Founded in the Burgos town of Pedrosa de Duero in 1996, the Pago de los Capellanes winery is the first wine project of the Rodero Villa family and was recently chosen as one of the 100 best wineries in the world by Wine & Spirits magazine. It is part of the Ribera del Duero DO, privileged by its climate and soils. Later, they decided to venture into white wines, creating the winery O Luar do Sil in Ourense, framed within the DO Valdeorras.
Pago de los Capellanes Vineyards
The Pago de los Capellanes vineyards are located in Pedrosa de Duero, Burgos, where grandfather Doroteo Rodero had a family vineyard, cultivated with the native Tempranillo variety. This was later recovered by the marriage of Paco Rodero and Conchita Villa, who also restored other vineyards in the area to form the winery, which is part of the Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero.
The philosophy of this winery is based on respect for the expressions of the land. For this, the cultivation is done through micro-parceling, following and studying the composition of the soils and their characteristics, in order to practice a precision viticulture that adapts to the diversity of soils, climates and conditions.
Later, the couple also created the O Luar do Sil winery in the village of Seadur, in Ourense, within the Valdeorras Denomination of Origin in Galicia. There, they make their white wines from the native Godello variety.
Pago de los Capellanes wines
The aim of Pago de los Capellanes is to express its landscape through handcrafted, timeless and long-aged wines. Five red wines, three white wines, two appellations and a single philosophy: to enjoy sharing moments.
Its red wines are made with the native Tempranillo variety, characterized by its thick skin, which protects it from the extreme conditions of the area and gives rise to intense wines in terms of color, structure and tannins. On the other hand, the white wines are made from the autochthonous variety of Galicia, Godello.
Among its red wines with traditional handling, structured and velvety, Pago de los Capellanes Crianza 2017, Pago de los Capellanes Reserva 2016 and Pago de los Capellanes Roble 2019 stand out.
Among its white wines with its own philosophy, complex and intense and long aging, O Luar do Sil Godello Sobre Lías 2019 and O Luar do Sil Godello 2019 stand out.
