Description
On the south-eastern slopes of Volnay, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune, Vincent Girardin shapes a delicate and profound expression of Pinot Noir. Sourced from vines over 65 years old, planted in the "Les Blanches", "Les Grands Champs" and "Pluchots" climates, this wine is rooted in stony soils of limestone and ferruginous silt, bringing tension and mineral character to the whole. Vincent Girardin, the son of winegrowers, began his own journey at the age of 19, determined to make wines that spoke of the place rather than the winemaker. His philosophy, based on sustainable practices and precise winemaking, has made Vincent Girardin Volnay Vieilles Vignes a benchmark cuvée.
Winemaking
Vincent Girardin Volnay Vieilles Vignes is harvested by hand with strict selection in the vineyard and in the cellar. Depending on the state of health of the grapes, a small proportion of whole bunches is added. After cold maceration, fermentation takes place in a controlled manner in steel tanks, with gentle pumping over and pigeage. After pneumatic pressing, the wine spends 14 months in French oak barrels (30% new), where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. Blending is done one month before bottling, without fining and with minimal filtration.
Taste
Vincent Girardin Volnay Vieilles Vignes has a bright ruby colour with garnet reflections. Its nose combines red cherry, redcurrant, dried violet petals and a spicy earthy background, with hints of clove and black tea. On the palate, it stands out for its sharp freshness and silky tannins, which support a crisp, vibrant fruit. The finish is long, with hints of dried plum, damp earth and a subtle chalky salinity. This is a pure, elegant Volnay that speaks softly but confidently, ideal for those seeking the most refined expression of Burgundy's Pinot Noir.
