Description
In the prestigious Côte de Beaune, Vincent Girardin has forged a style based on absolute respect for the vineyard. Coming from a family of winegrowers, he took the risk - uncommon in his youth - of creating his own maison, opting for precision viticulture and minimal intervention. " Les Charmes-Dessus" comes from the upper part of the famous 1er Cru Les Charmes, a terroir close to Puligny Montrachet and adjoining Les Perrières. The vines, more than 55 years old, are planted on very stony clay-limestone soils, rich in iron, well-drained and facing south-east. This unique site gives the Chardonnay a unique mineral tension, balancing opulence and energy with admirable precision.
Winemaking
The vinification of Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus begins with a manual harvest, with double selection in the field and in the cellar. Pressing is slow and delicate using a pneumatic press. After a light racking, the must is transferred to 228-litre French oak barrels (15% new), where it ferments with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes 18 months on fine lees, without bâtonnage, to preserve the purity of the wine. The final blending is carried out in steel tanks before bottling, following the lunar calendar, with a light clarification and respectful filtration.
Taste
Vincent Girardin Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus displays an elegant complexity on the nose: fresh butter, hazelnut, white flower and ripe citrus fruit blend with a crisp, almost chalky minerality. The palate is full and silky, with a vibrant core of acidity that adds verticality. Notes of candied lemon, brioche, raw almonds and a subtle smoky touch follow one after the other in harmony. The finish is long, saline and structured, leaving a trace of tension and finesse. A Meursault of high lineage, precise and refined, ideal for lovers of the most serious and expressive Chardonnay.
