Description

In the heart of the Val do Salnés, where the Atlantic brushes the vineyard with salt and wind, Alberto Nanclares Prieto and Silvia Prieto have built a radically honest vision of Albariño. Silvia's O Bocoi Vello is born from three small plots in Sanxenxo, with vines between 25 and 45 years old, cultivated in pergola on sandy and stony soils settled on granite. In this region of Rías Baixas, where wine-growing tradition is intertwined with humidity and Atlantic rigour, Silvia decided to look back in order to move forward: recovering the 90-year-old chestnut vat was a bold, almost reverential gesture. No artifice. Just grapes, hands and time.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by careful selection. The grapes are trodden by foot, as in the old days, allowing the must to ferment with skins and stems for two days. Then, the must of Nanclares Prieto O Bocoi Vello de Silvia is transferred to the unique Castaño vat, where it finishes fermentation and rests on its lees for nine months. During the first three months, a weekly bâtonnage is carried out to give it body and depth. The wine is bottled without filtering or fining, and with only a minimal dose of sulphur dioxide. Each stage of the process is designed to preserve the purity of the terroir, its light and its austere minerality.

Taste

In the glass, Nanclares Prieto O Bocoi Vello de Silvia is pure Atlantic tension. On entry, it is firm and saline, with a freshness that stretches like a wire: citrus notes of lime, grapefruit and lemon zest vibrate against a background of wet stone. This is not a wine that seeks to please with lush fruit, but seduces with precision. There are hints of white peach, dried camomile and a slight hint of orange blossom. The palate is upright, clean, with a sharp, persistent acidity that carries the salinity away like a returning wave. The finish is long, sharp, and leaves a tactile impression of chalk and sea breeze. It is an extreme, uncompromising Albariño that accurately reflects the rawness of its origin. For those seeking authenticity, energy and liquid landscape, this wine is a lesson in how the past can mark the future with radical elegance.
