Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 Poza Vella could be listed under Cume do Avia, where it's produced in collaboration with Nanclares and the Bagos wine bar from Pontevedra. But since I tasted the first two vintages with Nanclares, I listed it here, and I didn't think it made sense to list it together with the rest of wines from Cume do Avia elsewhere. Anyway, the wine shows the evolution of style from the ripe and concentrated 2015 to this 2017, which is much more balanced, focused and expressive. Furthermore, this time the grapes come from one plot, Quinta do Beliño, that was planted in 2013, so extremely young vines. All the grapes fermented together in a chestnut vat and underwent a three-week maceration. The wine matured in used French oak barriques for eight months. 684 bottles were filled in August 2018.

Description
From its origin, Poza Vella was born as a work of deep love for the Galician land. Nanclares y Prieto Poza Vella is the result of a poetic and rebellious philosophy, embodied by Alberto Nanclares and Silvia Prieto, who decided to recover old vineyards in Ribeira Sacra and Ribeiro, working exclusively with native varieties such as Brancellao, Caiño Longo, Sousón, Ferrón and Merenzao. The name -Poza Vella, "the old well"- alludes to an ancestral spring found in a forgotten estate, a symbol of Galician roots and memory. With poor granitic soils and a temperate Atlantic climate, these extremely steep plots of land require manual, almost heroic cultivation. There, where the mist and fog caress the vines, a wine emerges that defies trends and celebrates the raw identity of Galicia.
Winemaking
Harvesting, exclusively by hand, is carried out in small boxes to protect the fruit. The grapes destined for Nanclares and Prieto Poza Vella are vatted whole, with 100% stems, fermented with indigenous yeasts in old chestnut vats, which allows for slow and controlled oxygenation. No unnecessary intervention is avoided: no pumping over, no corrections, no rushing. Maceration is long and leisurely, extracting fine tannins and structure without sacrificing freshness. After spontaneous malolactic fermentation, Nanclares Prieto Poza Vella is aged for 11 months in used French oak barrels. It is not clarified or filtered before bottling, seeking to maintain its purest, freest and wildest expression.
Taste
Nanclares Prieto Poza Vella does not seek to please immediately: its character is sharp, frank and tense. The nose opens slowly, revealing spicy cherries, fresh blueberries, an herbal trace and wet rock minerality. On the palate, it has a sharp acidity and rough but elegant tannins. The palate is electric, marked by notes of redcurrant, wild raspberry, dried flowers and a lingering salinity. There is a balsamic and earthy background that anchors the wine, a kind of subterranean energy that makes it vibrate.
