Description

In the heart of the Val do Salnés, where the Atlantic fog envelops the vineyards at dawn and the granite emerges under layers of sand and organic matter, Nanclares y Prieto make wines that are a true reflection of their origin and an unwavering ethic. Nanclares and Prieto Coccinella, a name that pays homage to the ladybirds -natural allies in the vineyard-, is born from a single centenary plot called Inxertal, in Sisán, Ribadumia. The Albariño vines, more than 100 years old, are cultivated using the traditional pergola method and tied with willow branches, a gesture of respect for ancestral Galician viticulture.

Far from passing fads, this wine is the result of a courageous decision: to let the vineyard speak without make-up. No herbicides, no pesticides, no additives. Just grapes, soil and time. The philosophy is clear: minimum intervention, maximum truth.

Winemaking

The grapes were harvested by hand, with rigorous selection in the vineyard. The whole bunches were gently pressed in a pneumatic press, without destemming, extracting the purest must. Fermentation of Nanclares Prieto Coccinella took place spontaneously, with indigenous yeasts, in a single used French oak barrel. There it rested for 11 months on its lees, with weekly bâtonnage during the first month, providing structure and texture. The wine was bottled without filtering or fining, and rested in the bottle for a further 9 months before being released onto the market. An artisanal, precise process, with no shortcuts.

Flavour

Nanclares Prieto Coccinella does not seek to impress immediately: it unfolds gradually, with restrained elegance. On the nose there are notes of lime, green apple, dried mandarin peel and a saline background that evokes the Atlantic air. The palate is taut and sharp, with vibrant acidity setting the pace. There is a tactile sensation of wet granite, a slight unctuousness from ageing on the lees, and a long finish with hints of grapefruit, fennel and subtle yeast. The delicate bitterness of citrus peel closes the whole firmly. It is a wine with an austere, deeply mineral profile that demands time and attention. An Albariño for those who seek truth before ornamentation.
