Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Notes of raspberries, cherries and spices introduce the 2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges Village (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium-bodied, soft and delicate wine that, somewhat atypically by this cuvée's standards, will drink well young.

Features

Description

Louis Jadot Nuits-Saint-Georges was born of a deep conviction: Pinot Noir must reflect the soul of the terroir without superfluous ornamentation. In this corner of the Côte de Nuits, where limestone mingles with ancient marl and the eastern exposure ensures slow, steady ripening, the Jadot team wanted to recover a serious, firm profile with an unmistakable mineral nerve. The decision to work exclusively with manual harvesting, even in difficult years, reveals their commitment to detail and respect for the fruit. An anecdote illustrates this rigour: during a particularly difficult vintage due to rainfall, it was decided to reduce the yield by more than 30% in order to keep only the healthiest and most expressive grapes. The wine is composed of Pinot Noir from the communes of Nuits and Prémeaux-Prissey, both under the prestigious Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation.

Winemaking

The vinification of Louis Jadot Nuits-Saint-Georges begins with a meticulous harvest by hand in small crates, to avoid premature crushing of the grapes. After strict manual sorting, the bunches are completely destemmed. Maceration is carried out in open wooden or stainless steel vats for 3 to 4 weeks, with twice-daily punching down to gently extract tannins and colour. Ageing lasts 18 months in oak barrels, a third of which are new. This precise choice allows Louis Jadot Nuits-Saint-Georges to develop structure without losing freshness and elegance.

Taste

In the glass, Louis Jadot Nuits-Saint Georges shows a deep ruby colour with garnet reflections. The nose is restrained but expressive: black cherry, ripe raspberry, subtle notes of cinnamon, fine leather and an echo of white truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with firm, polished tannins and a tense acidity that prolongs the length. The red fruit intertwines with notes of damp earth, cocoa and a delicate mineral background. The finish is long, restrained, with a saline touch and an elegant bitterness that gives it depth. A serious wine, for those who appreciate Pinot Noir with authenticity and character.
