Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Village (Maison Louis Jadot) offers up aromas of raspberries, orange zest, peonies and licorice. It's medium to full-bodied, with a juicy core of fruit and youthfully chunky tannins. As usual, it's vinified in house.

Description
Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin was born from a clear and courageous idea: to let the terroir speak with total honesty. In the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin is one of Burgundy's most prestigious communes, with chalky soils and a notable presence of clay loams. It was precisely in a plot considered "difficult" - because of its slope, its stony soil and its demanding orientation - that Louis Jadot 's team decided to go for a respectful, almost obstinately manual viticulture. The result is a Pinot Noir with character, born from vines that breathe continental climate: cold winters, mild summers and a slow maturation that concentrates aromas and freshness without losing finesse.
Winemaking
Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin is harvested by hand, in small crates to avoid damaging the grapes. Once in the winery, the bunches are selected by hand and carefully destemmed. Fermentation takes place in open vats - either wood or stainless steel - over a period of three to four weeks, with pigeage twice a day to ensure a precise and harmonious extraction. This prolonged process allows the tannic structure to develop elegantly, without losing tension or freshness. Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new. This ageing adds complexity, subtle spicy notes and depth, without masking the mineral expression so characteristic of its terroir.
Taste
Intense ruby with garnet reflections. On the nose, Louis Jadot Gevrey Chambertin displays a complexity that goes far beyond the fruit: black cherry, raspberry and wild blackberry blend with notes of undergrowth, soft truffle, fine leather and a subtle smokiness. On the palate, it is precise and vertical: firm but silky tannins, vibrant acidity and an enveloping texture. The mineral profile - chalky, almost saline - supports ripe, deep fruit. Echoes of black tea, liquorice, sweet spices and minty freshness appear on the finish. Long, elegant and with a tension that promises evolution. Ideal for grilled meats, spicy dishes or simply to be enjoyed slowly.
