Dominio del Águila is a family winery located in a small village in the Ribera del Duero called La Aguilera. This winery is run by the couple formed by Jorge Monzón and Isabel Rodero.
The winery belongs to the Denominación de Origen Ribera del Duero and is in the Consejo Ecológico de Castilla y León.
Jorge Monzón comes from a family of several generations of winegrowers and began his oenology studies in Bordeaux and continued his professional career in emblematic wineries such as Romanée-Conti and Vega Sicilia, until he arrived at the Arzuaga winery.
Throughout all his years of apprenticeship they have also dedicated themselves to the recovery of the family's vineyards, until they have amassed an important estate of very high quality vines, where the tempranillo grape is the protagonist.
Since 2013, Jorge has been working full time at Bodega Dominio del Águila.
Location of the winery
Since 2010, the Dominio del Águila Winery has joined forces to make its project a reality. Currently its headquarters are located in La Aguilera, a small village in the Ribera del Duero.
To be specific, this winery has gradually rehabilitated a traditional wine press from the 17th century and six underground cellars and galleries from the 15th century, which have been connected and where there are concrete tanks and oak vats.
The winery also has underground galleries where the barrels are housed, with some 250 of them, to carry out the ageing processes.
Vineyards
Dominio del Águila currently has 30 hectares of very old vines, most of which are organically farmed, as well as 5 hectares of younger vines relatively younger than 50 years old.
Jorge Monzón and Isabel Rodero have also been supplying grapes to some of the region's leading wineries for more than 10 vintages.
Techniques applied
At Bodega Dominio del Águila, both in viticulture and winemaking, there is an effort to do everything by hand. The aim is to be very respectful of nature.
From the use of herbal infusions, such as valerian or yarrow, for the treatment of the vines, to the non-clarification and non-filtering of the wine.
From this philosophy the ultimate goal of the winery is to make pure and fine wines, organic wines which can be able to age for a long time, and be enjoyed at any time.
And you, have you already tasted some of the impressive wines of this winery? Leave us your comments!
