Buy Wine from Baronne Philippine de Rothschild
Baronne Philippine de Rothschild is the company owner of the exquisite winery Château Mouton Rothschild, in Bordeaux. The first documents attesting the existence of the manor take us back to the 18th century, but it will only be in 1853 when the Rothschild family purchased the property and took charge of it restoring the building and replanting the vineyard. It is not until 1922 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild takes over and is the first one in the whole Médoc region to introduce the bottling in the estate, transforming the wine-making scenario. With the idea of binding art and wine, Baron Philippe resolves in 1945 that wines Château Mouton Rothschild will be labelled with a celebrated artist illustration. Labels should be changed every year, both its design and its author. Later, in 1973, Château Mouton Rothschild will achieve the Premier Crú Classé classification; up to then and with the 1855 classification, there were only four châteaux with the category Premier Crú Classé (Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux and Haut-Brion). After Baron Philippe de Rothschild's demise, in 1988, his daughter Philippine de Rothschild assumes de direction of Château Mouton Rothschild.
Château Mouton Rothschild is a manor of 84 vineyard hectares at Pauillac commune, northeast from Bordeaux and settled between the Gironde estuary on the east and the Atlantic Ocean on the west. Poor soils made of gravel, which hold the warmth, are mixed with clay and sand in a bed of limestone. Red wines obtained are elegant, vigorous, and rich in tannins and with good ageing potential. The prevailing variety in the vineyards is Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), followed by Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Nowadays, Baronne Philippine de Rothschild has the property of other châteaux: Château Clerc Milon, Château d'Armailhac, Mouton Cadet in Bordeaux; Opus One in California; and Almaviva in Chile.
Château Mouton Rothschild produces about 360.000 bottles considering its first wine Château Mouton Rothschild and the second Le Petit Mouton produced from 1993 on. Fermentation takes place in oak vats and the subsequent ageing will last for 22 months in French oak barrels. Wines have black cherry and cassis scent, with remarkable and ripened tannins… a great wine that can be kept for decades!
Baronne Philippine de Rothschild, luxury wines available to few!
