Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2023 Espectacle del Montsant was produced exclusively with Garnacha from an ancient plot in the village of La Figuera in Montsant at more than 600 meters above sea level on limestone and clay soils. The clusters were stored at cool temperature for 24 hours, put through a sorting table and destemmed. The grapes fermented in vat, and the wine matured in 2,000- and a 3-000-liter oak vats (which are renewed every three years) for 14 to 16 months. Despite the warm and dry conditions of the year—some individual vines died—the wine has lower alcohol, 14.5%, and it's more elegant with a finer-boned personality; it's a little more refined version of the 2022. It's still a little young and marked by the élevage in wood, with some spiciness and some creamy sensations that should integrate with a little more time in bottle. It has a very elegant mouthfeel, with a velvety texture. It was a shorter crop, so they only produced around 4,200 bottles.
