Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Riesling Clos Ste Hune 100e Anniversaire is very clear, fresh and coolish on the precise and refined, very detailed nose that is a clear reflection of the terroir expressed with saline lemon aromas. Generous yet refined on the palate, this is a more classical Riesling compared to 2018, so it's a bit more austere, less textured but more precise and incredibly saline. The tannins are still biting a bit but already playing with the saline acidity, and I assure you that this is a great and balanced classical Riesling that will make its way over the years. Personally, I adore this style (or vintage) since it shows the finesse and purity of the clos rather than its power and richness at this stage. Keep it for at least 10 or, if you can, 20 years. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024 and again on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Clos Ste Hune at the beginning of November, with the same result, but another note;

Description
For more than four centuries, the Trimbach family has been synonymous with precision and grandeur in the production of Riesling in Alsace. But it was in 1919 that their most precious jewel was born: Trimbach Alsace Riesling Clos Ste Hune, a monopole of just 1.67 hectares nestled within the historic Alsace Grand Cru Rosacker in Hunawihr. This vineyard, owned by the family for over 200 years, is planted on Muschelkalk, a limestone rich in marine fossils that gives the wine an incomparable minerality. The east-southeast orientation and vines over 60 years old - many planted in 1953 - allow for slow, precise maturation. Organic viticulture has been practised for more than 15 years, certified in 2023. Only one man has pruned these vines for two decades: a silent gesture of loyalty and deep knowledge of the place.
Winemaking
Trimbach Alsace Riesling Clos Ste Hune is made with a minimalist, unadorned philosophy. The grapes are harvested by hand and meticulously selected. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press and the must ferments in stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out in order to preserve all the natural tension. The wine does not go through oak, and is bottled early to preserve freshness and energy. It then rests for a minimum of four years in the cellar before release, revealing its depth and complexity over time.
Taste
On the nose, Trimbach Alsace Riesling Clos Ste Hune presents itself with restrained elegance: white flower, lime, mirabelle plum, and a background of wet stone. On the palate, it is a symphony of precision: taut citrus, green apple, bergamot, all wrapped in a vibrant salinity. The acidity is cutting, perfectly integrated, and gives structure to a dense but always slender wine. The finish is long, dry, with echoes of limestone and a marine whisper. It does not seek to seduce with exuberance, but with purity. A Riesling for lovers of tension, of mineral silence, of elegance without artifice. A wine that opens slowly, like a truth patiently revealed.
