Description
Les Terres De Philéandre Marsannay Rouge was born out of a restlessness rather than a business plan: David Duband 's "laboratory notebook" to explore more naked terroirs and vinifications, with a deliberate search for elegance over opulence. In Marsannay, the northern gateway to the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, Pinot Noir clings to marl and clay-limestone slopes: a soil that provides serious structure without losing the fresh nerve, that salivating Burgundian edge. Here the courage is not to do more, but to do less: viticulture with a natural approach, winery decisions without make-up and a fixed idea - that the place should speak. The variety is clear and undistracted: 100% Pinot Noir.
Winemaking
The grapes come in hand-picked and, at Les Terres De Philéandre Marsannay Rouge, are vinified with 60% whole bunch, looking for noble stem perfume and infusion tension, not raw extraction. Maceration lasts 15 days, with an intense rhythm of 5-7 punch-downs per day and occasional pump-overs. After pressing, the wine is decanted for two weeks in barrels before ageing: 13 months in barrels (30% new and 70% from 1 to 5 uses), followed by a minimum of 3 months in tank. It is bottled without fining or filtering, preserving texture, energy and definition.
Taste
In Les Terres De Philéandre Marsannay Rouge, the colour is purplish red, lively. The nose opens with a dark, juicy hit: blackcurrant, blackberry (almost in fruit paste) and a fine spice reminiscent of freshly ground pepper. With air, powdery notes appear, a touch of noble wood and a wink of coffee that doesn't weigh it down: it just deepens. On the palate it is rich and biting: ample fruit, firm tannin, but crossed by a salivating freshness that makes it surprisingly drinkable, long on the palate and precise on the finish. It is Marsannay with a modern pulse: a Burgundy red wine with intensity without excess, structure without Dureza... and that feeling that it can grow in the bottle with sure calm.
