Buy Wine from Mas Candí
There are wineries that are born from a business plan. And there are wineries that are born out of an intimate need: to give a voice to vines that have been speaking silently for generations. Mas Candí belongs to this second lineage. Although its first vintage was signed in 2006, its real history begins much earlier, when the landscape was still measured by farmhouses and hands, and when the family had been cultivating these lands since at least the 17th century in Les Gunyoles d'Avinyonet del Penedès. The winery was built in 2005, at the gates of the Massís del Garraf, with an idea as simple as it is ambitious: to bottle the identity of a place and of inherited vineyards, worked by grandparents and great-grandparents, without disguising them.
Origin and team: from the vineyard to the bottle
At the heart of this story is Ramon Jané, trained in viticulture and oenology, and experienced in apprenticeships in such demanding regions as Burgundy and Champagne. But what defines his vision is not the geography of the practices, but the return: from a very young age he worked the family vineyards at Mas Rossell, an estate that gives an agricultural dimension to the project and, above all, anchors it in the real world: hectares, soils, seasons and decisions. Mas Candí was also born as a collective impulse - the union of young winegrowers - and over time it was consolidated around the tandem Ramon Jané and Mercè Cuscó, maintaining natural links with related paths in the Penedès. This genealogy of complicities explains the style: here a wine is not "invented" to be liked; a territory is interpreted to be understood.
Territory and varieties: Penedès, Garraf, Xarel.lo and Sumoll
The location is not a fact: it is a manifesto. Les Gunyoles, in the Alt Penedès, looks towards the Garraf and absorbs its Mediterranean character. On this natural border, viticulture becomes an exercise in balance: open light, ventilation, thermal contrasts and a sensation of an open landscape that forces the vines to seek depth and to express themselves without excess.
Mas Candí speaks with special eloquence when it works with indigenous varieties - those that best understand the climate and soils -, vindicating grapes such as Xarel.lo and Sumoll not as a folkloric gesture, but as a conviction: identity is not manufactured, it is cultivated.
Philosophy and style: organic farming, sparkling wines and clarity
Their philosophy is practised rather than proclaimed: respect for nature and the search for the natural balance of the vines, with organic farming and a measured, conscious intervention. Here, quality is not "corrected" in the cellar; it is built up throughout the year, with each winegrowing decision. And that means accepting that each vintage brings its own voice, without forcing it to repeat the same discourse.
Mas Candí also expresses itself in the sparkling wines of the region: bubbles that do not block, but refine; that do not make up, but order the energy of the wine. When Xarel.lo comes into play, the conversation becomes clear: tension, structure, measured fruit, nerve and that subtle salinity that leaves the landscape on the palate.
In times of strident labels and universal recipes, Mas Candí seduces by the opposite: by its clarity. A young winery that does not compete to appear to be the most radical or the most classic, but to achieve something much rarer: that each bottle is coherent with the vineyard from which it is born. To drink Mas Candí is to drink a Penedès that looks towards the Garraf and towards its own agricultural memory; a Penedès that claims craft, patience and origin. And that is why, when its wines are served with time and curiosity, they leave a luminous impression: that of a place that cannot be explained with words, but with texture, nerve and light
