Buy Wine from Joh. Jos. Prüm
The winery Joh. Jos. Prüm is located in the heart of the Moselle wine region, in the picturesque village of Wehlen. This family, whose name is inextricably linked to the Moselle, has been established in Wehlen since the 12th century. The winery, as we know it today, was formed in the 17th century with Sebastien Alois Prüm at the helm. It is interesting to note that it was his brother Jodocus who built the famous "Sonnenuhr" sundials, which still adorn the vineyards and from which some take their name, such as Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr.
In 1911, Johann Josef Prüm inherited the winery, and it has remained in family hands ever since. For many years, the winery was under the management of the inimitable Dr. Manfred Prüm. Today, it is his daughter Katharina who runs the winery, continuing the family tradition.Vineyards
The vineyards of Joh. Jos. Prüm vineyards cover about 20 hectares in the Mittelmosel region, spread over several Grand Cru (Grosse Lage) vineyards. These vineyards are located on steep south-facing anthracite slate slopes, which tend to produce wines with peachy and smoky nuances in their youth. Over time, these wines reveal the full complexity and depth of this famous terroir, showing elegant hydrocarbon notes. The comparatively cool climate of Mittelmosel allows the Riesling grapes to ripen over an extremely long period, forming a wide variety of aromas and maintaining a fresh acidity.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Joh. Jos. Prüm focuses on producing Rieslings that reflect elegance, subtility and balance between shale minerality and expressive fruitiness. The winery strives to express the climatic and soil conditions in its Rieslings, following the principle that nature composes the wine better than any modern winemaking technique. Special attention is paid to care in the vineyards, the maintenance of old vines, selective hand harvesting at the optimum time and spontaneous fermentation. The winery concentrates on the production of fruity and sweet Rieslings, whose discreet natural sweetness gives the wines a special balance. These wines, when drunk young, show vibrant energy and, over time, develop greater finesse, clarity and depth, while retaining their liveliness.
With a rich history and an unwavering dedication to quality and tradition, the Joh. Jos. Prüm has established its place as one of the most respected wine producers not only in Germany, but in the world.
