Buy Wine from Júlia Bernet
The Júlia Bernet winery is located in one of the northernmost areas of Alt Penedès, near the Ordal mountains. It is a small winery run by Xavier Bernet and his wife Cristina, who are dedicated to the production of limited-production sparkling wines.
History
The history of this winery goes back to Xavier's grandparents, who were founding members of the Sant Sadurní d'Anoia cooperative. This winemaking tradition was inherited by Xavier's father, who also sold his grapes to the cooperative. However, it was with the third generation, represented by Xavier, that the Bernet family decided to make wine at home, taking advantage of their own 7 hectares of vineyards.
In 2003, Xavier and his wife began to vinify their grapes, and two years later, in 2005, they launched the first bottles of the family winery, naming them after their eldest daughter, Júlia.
Vineyards
The Júlia Bernet vineyards are located at an altitude of between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. This location, in the Ordal mountains, offers a rugged, chalky and balanced terrain with dry stone margins.
The marine influence and the relatively cool climate of the region are ideal for the production of high quality sparkling wines. The predominant indigenous varieties are Xarel-lo, with vines averaging around 40 years of age. This combination of factors results in a wine with distinctive character and personality.
Philosophy
Júlia Bernet' s philosophy is based on a commitment to origin, sustainability and respect for the environment. All their wines are made under a strict commitment to these principles, and are certified organic viticulture.
The grapes are harvested by hand and the yeasts used are indigenous. Moreover, the dosages are made with must from the grapes themselves, without the use of sulphur or subsequent corrections. Transparency and traceability is total in all the winemaking processes. One of the distinguishing features of the Bernet family's cavas is that they are Brut Nature, that is to say, they do not contain added expedition liqueur. The winery is part of the Corpinnat consortium, which brings together some of the most important sparkling wine producers in the Penedès.
