Description
In Deidesheim, in the Pfalz, the Von Winning winery operates as if each vineyard were a musical score: less pretence, more authenticity. Mäushöhle —‘the mouse’s cave’— lies sheltered in a long valley, a natural amphitheatre where the cool air lingers and the light filters in with precision. There, on sandstone and limestone, but also with layers of loess and marl/clay that lend structure and depth, a dry German Riesling is born that does not seek to please everyone: it seeks to be precise. The concept behind Von Winning Deidesheimer Mäushöhle Riesling Trocken was a bold stylistic decision: to push the terroir’s tension to the limit and allow the wood not to impart fragrance, but to sharpen the wine.
