Description
Rossignol-Trapet is not a winery that relies on artifice, but a Burgundian estate that operates on the conviction that wine should speak from the vineyard, not from the cellar. Born of the union of two historic families, Rossignol and Trapet, the domaine found its definitive voice with Nicolas and David Rossignol, who courageously committed to biodynamic viticulture at a time when it was still met with scepticism in Burgundy. Rossignol Trapet Bourgogne Rouge, made from 100% Pinot Noir, comes from the En Grands Champs plot, on the lower part of the Gevrey Chambertin hillside. There, the cool soils with good water retention, combined with the region’s continental climate and the meticulous traditions of the Côte de Nuits, give rise to a red wine with far greater depth than its appellation might suggest.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, and selection is aimed at preserving the purity of the fruit. With Rossignol Trapet Bourgogne Rouge, the philosophy is not to seek forced concentration or excessive extraction, but rather a precise infusion that preserves the identity of the Pinot Noir and the terroir’s character. Part of the fermentation takes place with whole bunches, which adds tension, floral aromas and a subtle spicy nuance. The wine is then aged for 14 months in French oak barrels (10% new), which is sufficient to refine the texture without obscuring the aromatic clarity.
Taste
On the nose, Rossignol Trapet Bourgogne Rouge is serene and well-defined, with red cherry, fresh raspberry and redcurrant, enveloped in delicate violets, an earthy undertone and a subtle hint of spice. It is not an exuberant Pinot Noir, but rather straightforward, fragrant and elegant. On the palate, it is juicy, with energy and a lively acidity that drives it forward with clarity. The tannins are fine, yet provide grip and structure. The crisp red fruit returns, accompanied by floral notes, a hint of dried stem and a subtle spice. The finish is fresh, precise and delicately earthy, leaving a sensation of authenticity, tension and pure Burgundy.
