Description

Rossignol-Trapet Beaune Les Mariages presents this Burgundy red wine as one of those wines born of a deep conviction rather than a mere formula. The domaine, founded in 1990 through the union of two historic Burgundy families, took a bold step when Nicolas and David Rossignol committed to biodynamics in a Côte d’Or that was still largely unreceptive to such practices. Since then, they have worked with a clear vision: to intervene less so that the land can speak more clearly. This wine comes from a small plot in Beaune, planted in the 1980s beneath the Premiers Crus Les Grèves and Les Toussaints, with an east-to-south aspect and limestone and clay soils. There, the Pinot Noir—the wine’s sole grape variety—achieves a beautiful balance between juiciness, finesse and mineral tension.

Winemaking

In the cellar, Rossignol-Trapet Beaune Les Mariages is vinified with precision and finesse. The grapes arrive fully ripe and carefully selected, and approximately 50 per cent of the bunches are destemmed, seeking to combine the energy of the whole bunch with a more measured and defined extraction. Vinification is carried out gently, without dureza, and the wine is aged in 228-litre Burgundian barrels, where it gains depth without losing the transparency of the terroir. The oak does not mask the wine, but merely complements it. The result is a biodynamic wine of medium body, yet with a serious, refined and very Burgundian internal structure.

Flavour

In the glass, Rossignol Trapet Beaune Les Mariages opens with fresh cherry, raspberry and a darker undertone of blackberry and black cherry. This is neither an exuberant nor a sweet Beaune Pinot Noir, but rather a restrained, earthy and refined wine, with notes of undergrowth, delicate spice and a faint smoky undertone. On the palate, it flows smoothly, with a silky texture and a noble fullness that is never heavy. The acidity stretches it out, refines it and gives it a lively edge. The tannins appear with subtle firmness, supporting a long, fresh and slightly spicy finish, where fruit, stone and damp earth blend together with great naturalness.
