Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Paraje Mina is the single-vineyard bottling of the Albariño from the vineyard from the house that Alberto Nanclares bought in 1993. It has 11.5% alcohol and the sharp profile from the cool year, with vibrant acidity, citrus freshness and the ever-present sensation of the granite soils. It has notes of herbs and a faint touch of honey that I found in many other whites from 2021, but the wines do not show development. There was a savory twist on the nose too. 1,700 bottles approximately. There is no 2022 version of this wine.

Description
Next to Alberto Nanclares' house, on the slopes of historic Cambados, Nanclares y Prieto Paraje Mina is born: a wine that does not respond to formulas or concessions. It is the pure expression of a minimal plot -a scant hectare- of 42-year-old Albariño vines, planted on decomposed granite soils in the heart of the Val do Salnés. Here, the vines sink their roots in search of the salt and tension of the subsoil, moulded by the Atlantic winds and the morning mists. The decision to vinify this plot separately came in 2016, after a devastating frost. Where others would have seen defeat, Alberto and Silvia saw an opportunity to listen to the vineyard on its own. Thus was born this radically honest wine, without ornamentation or artifice, guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum respect for the identity of the place.
Winemaking
The grapes for Nanclares Prieto Paraje Mina are harvested by hand and carefully selected in the vineyard. The grapes, without destemming, are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation is divided between a stainless steel tank (50%) and a used French oak barrel (50%), where the wine rests for nine months on its fine lees. During the first three months, a weekly bâtonnage is carried out to add texture without sacrificing freshness. Nanclares Prieto Paraje Mina is bottled without stabilisation or fining, with a light filtration and just a minimal dose of SO₂. The intention is clear: to let the vineyard do the talking.
Flavour
Nanclares Prieto Paraje Mina presents itself with a restrained, yet deeply evocative nose. Lime, grapefruit peel, dried seaweed and a flinty background define its mineral and saline profile. There is no excess of fruit, but precision and depth. The palate is pure nerve: the acidity runs across the palate like a chalk line, leaving behind notes of green apple, wilted flower and a lingering saline sensation. The finish is long, austere, with a slight varietal bitterness reminiscent of raw almond and citrus leaf. An Albariño for those seeking tension, structure and landscape rather than exuberance. A bottled piece of sea and granite.
