Buy Wine from Bodega Mustiguillo
Mustiguillo is a winery located near the Sierra del Negrete in Utiel, 800 metres above sea level, with the immensity of the Mediterranean as a backdrop.
The vineyards of this winery give life to an environment where not only the Bobal grape is cultivated, but it is also surrounded by various aromatic plants that combine to produce a majestic wine.
The processing of this grape, which has withstood the extremes of climate in the area and is also grown in limestone soils, provides the characteristic flavour of Bodega Mustiguillo wines, where nuances, elegance and subtlety are their best definition.
Let's talk about its history
The history of this winery began with the purchase of Finca Terrerazo in the 1970s by the Sarrión family. However, it was not until 1999 that they decided to start wine production and the construction of the Bodega Mustiguillo, seeing the potential they had with the cultivation of one of the most particular grapes in the area.
Different types of grapes are grown on this land, with the bobal variety predominating. However, depending on the season, they also grow Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera.
Toni Sarrión is in charge of the management of this bodega, applying a philosophy where viticulture respects the environment in which he works, but integrating various modern techniques. With this he has achieved that the harvest of this type of grape has unique characteristics.
This is of course reflected in his wines, which have a great variety of flavours, textures and aromas.
Techniques used
As we have already mentioned, Mustiguillo is a winery that applies integrated agricultural techniques, combining natural practices in the cultivation of the grapes, where the soil and the surrounding environment are respected to the maximum, but also combined with the most modern practices.
The soil on which the fruit is grown is sandy loam, which determines the particular flavour of the native Bobal grape and the other varieties that are sometimes grown.
The grapes are also harvested using traditional and modern practices, as the aim is to ensure that the fruit can be processed at its optimum state of ripeness, using modern technology.
Afterwards, the must undergoes a fermentation process and then ageing for the time stipulated by the winegrower for each wine.
Vineyards
These vineyards cover an area of 90 hectares and were originally dedicated to exploiting the benefits of the bobal grape for the production of bulk wine. They were then exported to different locations in Spain where they were processed.
However, Toni Sarrión decided to change the course of this estate, thus managing to detect the optimum point of the fruit to be processed as a quality grape and thus obtain one of the best wines in the region.
In addition, the cultivation of native grape varieties such as Bobal and Merseguera, which are the fruit that determines the essence of this majestic beverage, was rescued.
Wines that denote the particularity of their grapes
The wines of the Mustiguillos winery are particular beverages that express in each sip the climate and soil of these vineyards. They are wines that have demonstrated their evolution over time and have managed to classify themselves as unique, due to the grape variety with which they are made, and the characteristics of their crops.
